Waito R. Koskela


SOUTH WOODSTOCK - Waito R. Koskela, 88, of South Woodstock, died July 18, 2010 at the Androscoggin Hospice House. He was born in Woodstock on November 13, 1921, the son of Edward and Tilda (Kettunin) Koskela and was educated in local schools. He was a farmer and logger most of his life and had worked at the South Portland Ship Yard and as a cabinet maker at Cornwall’s.
     Mr. Koskela is survived by three sons, Waito E. Koskela and his wife Patricia and Shirley Koskela and his wife Judith all of Woodstock and Kenneth Koskela and his wife Theresa of West Paris; five daughters, Dianna Jackson and her husband Philip of Auburn, Martha Lavoie and her husband Clifford of Minot, Deborah Purcell of Lewiston, Katrina Thibeault and her husband Michael and Beth Verrill and her husband Peter all of New Gloucester; sister, Mirja Rainey of West Paris and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
     He was predeceased by his parents; one son, Douglas; one brother, Taisto Kaskela and one sister, Helvi Hale.
     Private graveside services will be held for the family at the Koskela-Dunham Cemetery.
     Memorials in his memory are suggested to the St. Mary’s Cancer Resource Center, 93 Campus
