Dean Brackett

AUBURN - Mr. Dean Brackett, 63, of West Paris, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2010 after a short stay at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. He was born September 28, 1946, the son of the late Erwin E. and Abbey B. Jones. He was married on June 25, 1983, to the former Shirley Davis (Martin) who survives him.
Mr. Brackett was employed at many shoe shops in the area with his latest employment at the Elan School in Poland as a night guard.
He was involved in the Down East Country Music Association for many years, serving as Director of the Western Division. He served as timekeeper at competitions as well as president, vice president and administrative assistant. This past May, he was reelected as vice president. He had a great love and appreciation of country music and he was always there to offer his help and support all who needed it.
Mr. Brackett’s favorite thing to do in his later years was to travel to Tennessee, where he always referred to it as his home away from home.
He is survived by two brothers, Robert Jones of Norway and Erwin Jones Jr. of Stoneham; two sisters, Margaret Stevens of Waterford and Sylvia Jones of Kennebunk; three stepsons, Jacob Martin of West Paris, James Martin of Oxford and Joseph Martin of Bath; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many close and special friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
There will be a celebration of Mr. Brackett’s life (at his request) held at the Silver Spur in Mechanic Falls on July 25, starting at 3:30 p.m. for all to say their goodbyes and share their memories.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations can be made to the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 236 Stetson Rd., Auburn, ME 04210.
